Baked Ziti!

I haven't posted in a few weeks, so I have a lot to catch up on.

I am completely done with school for the semester, with the exception of finals. This is a fantastic feeling. I am ready for this semester to be over with. Not because I am not enjoying it, I am just ready for the Christmas season and all that it brings, including a month at home not having to worry about anything school-related.

The obscure title comes from having dinner with 4 friends from high school, 2 of which I had not really talked to in awhile. It was really nice to be able to catch up with them for a few minutes. I have found that I have missed my high school friends a lot more than I thought I would. It makes spending time with them that much more special. This is another reason I am so ready for the holidays. It will (hopefully) mean spending a lot of time connecting with friends that I do not get to see very often anymore.

I really have loved this semester, and I am so thankful for the opportunity to have gotten to spend it with such great people. Some of my best friends here at Kennesaw I have met through PEGS. Classes were classes. There were certainly some ups and some downs, but that is expected. Each teacher had a completely different personality and teaching style, and with that brought mixed feelings. I preferred some teachers over others, but I made sure to absorb everything they taught, regardless of personal feelings. I am beginning to see the world differently, and I am incorporating the things I was taught into my everyday life, and I credit that to my professors, and I thank them for a great semester.

Next semester will definitely be different. For one thing, I won't be in PEGS classes, although most of the Brazil PEGS are in a lot of the same classes. That will be nice to see some familiar faces everyday. It will also be different because, other than the Friday meetings, there won't be any other time during the week when all of the PEGS are together. We are used to seeing each other at least 2x a week now in KSU 1111, but next semester won't be like that. I am, however, excited about getting into my Gen. Ed. This means that I am that much closer to getting to apply for my major, and getting to take those classes. This is very exciting, as I am so ready to begin learning about what all it takes to be a History Teacher, something I cannot wait to do.

So after rambling for awhile, I have completed this entry. I know this was less of a recap and more of a reflection, and I think that's ok.

[Insert Clever Title]

This past week has been a blur almost. It seems like it just flew by, which I appreciate greatly.

On Tuesday, the PEGS Brazil group got to give their presentation of Brazil to the President and his Cabinet. It was nice to show the administration what we did in Brazil, and I like how they showed interest in our trip and our program.

Tuesday was a very busy day for me, as are most days. It seemed like I was always on the go, never getting a chance to stop and catch my breath.

Wednesday was a very relaxed day. I had class, then I did not do much afterwards.

Thursday I went to class, then I got to work on my research paper for sociology. I typed 2 pages, then went to Echo with some friends.

Friday I listened to President Papp give his presentation, then hung out with 2 of my friends in high school that came to KSU on a college visit. I got to introduce them to Phillip and Christie, and talk to them about the PEGS Program. We hung out all afternoon, then I went to the library to do a sociology test.

Saturday I woke up, did laundry, and watched the Auburn/Georgia game. I was going to go to the library, but it turns out the library closes at 6, so i just stayed in my dorm all evening, with the exception of going to the Hoot for about an hour. I managed to finish my sociology test, but not my paper.

That was my week in a nutshell. I just want this next week to be over. It seems like all of my big projects are due all together, with each professor thinking their project/test/paper is most important.

Enter Laughing

This is the title of my high school's One Act Play. I came home this weekend to see them perform their show in a regional competition. I spent my Friday at the Springer Opera House, watching them and the other 5 competing schools. After the shows, the judges had to deliberate. I was there with a fellow alum who was also involved in theater while we were in high school, and we were both really nervous for our school, because only the winning school would go on to compete in the State competition the next weekend. We ended up winning region, which was awesome. Our school has a history of winning the region competition, but this year was different because there were 2 other schools that both had really great shows as well. It was a great day of great theater, along with seeing some friends that i hadn't seen in a long time, so that was good.

Ok, now for a recap since Brazil.

Getting back was really nice. I loved my bed, shower, and American food. I loved getting to see my friends again, and being back in my normal routine. All of my friends were so eager to hear what I did in Brazil and how my trip was. I think i talked about Brazil for the next week (and I am still talking about it). Going to class wasn't fun, just because we had all not been to class in about 2 weeks. I think I am just ready for the semester to be over. I do enjoy my classes and such, I just am ready for it to be over :)

"We legit never lost a game"

That quote is about my intramural vball team scrimmaging with some of the other teams tonight. We had 5 of our players and picked up a guy that didn't have any of his team there, and we won all 3 matches we played. It was awesome and I feel like our team is really coming together.

This week went by kind of fast. I had my usual meetings and practices and such. On Thursday, my mom and aunt came up from Atlanta for lunch and I showed them around campus.

Nothing else too special happened this week, so this post is going to be short.

Leaving for Brazil in less than a week has me really excited. I am definitely looking forward to being in Brazil for 10 days. All of the people in PEGS are great, so I like having the opportunity to get to spend time with them.

"I don't have a sermon planned, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night"

My dad said that from the pulpit last Sunday at my old church in North Carolina. Yep. It happened. But it was my idea. Not to say it, but I said he could say that, but just jokingly. I didn't really want him to say that on Sunday.

We went to North Carolina as a family, and the church got rooms for us at the Holiday Inn Express. My dad, my brother Collin, and I were headed to dinner Friday night with one of my dad's friends and that saying popped into my head, so I jokingly told him he should say that on Sunday, but I didn't expect him to. He gave me credit for it though :)

As for my weekend in North Carolina, it was incredible. I'm going to write about what I did.

I woke up at 8 on Friday morning and got ready to go. My family got here around 9:15, and they all came up to my dorm. It was really early on a Friday, so most people were still asleep, including my roommate. They were quiet and didn't wake him up though.

We left Kennesaw, and I rode with my sisters Ashley and Megan. With the three of us in the car, I knew it would be an interesting trip. We talked, listened to music, and told fun stories :) It was a good trip to NC.

Friday night, my dad, brother, and I went to dinner with my dad's friend and his son. We went to Fujisan. It was so good. I love Japanese. Afterwards, we went to his house and watched Avatar, because the three of us hadn't seen it. I had heard it was horrible, so I went in with those expectations, but I really liked it. It was very different from anything I had seen before and I liked the creation of a new world and species. After the movie was over, my dad took me over to my best friend's house for the night. One of our other really good friends, Olivia, was there, waiting for me to get there, but she had to leave right when I got there because she had to be home at 12 and it was 11:45 when i got there. We followed her to her house because her dad wanted us to. We ended up hanging out at her house until 130, just talking. My best friend Jesse and I went back to his house and stayed awake until 5. That's pretty normal for us though.

Saturday, Jesse, Olivia, two of my other good friends Chris and Jessica, and I went to lunch. Olivia though it was going to be awkward because her and Chris dated and he broke up with her, but it wasn't. I rarely get to see all of them, so it was good to have lunch and catch up. We swapped college stories, and it was very clear to me that I was having the best experience and was attending the best college. After lunch, I went back to the hotel for a bit then headed with the family to the house of a family who we had become really good friends with while we lived there, for a pig pickin'. A lot of the people we were close to at the church were there and it was a really good time. After the pig pickin', the 5 of us kids, my brother's girlfriend, Caitlin, and a few other people went over to a friend's to watch football.

Sunday was church. We got to see a lot of the people we left behind in Durham, so that was good. They were so glad to have us back for church. It was like we had never left. My dad preached, said the infamous line, and we had lunch, Southern Baptist style. There's nothing better than a Southern Baptist Sunday lunch :)

After lunch, Ashley, Caitlin, and I left to return home. Ashley and I had class Monday, and Caitlin had work. The trip went pretty well, with the exception of the rain. I got back to K'saw and continued college life.

Being in North Carolina for the weekend was so awesome. I loved every second of it, and I was thankful for the opportunity to go back.

This past week was nothing short of difficult. With Brazil fast approaching and me being without a VISA and some of the requirement for a VISA, I was a little worried as to how everything would turn out. I got my VISA with minor complications, and the day went great. I am mostly ready for BRAZIL in THIRTEEN days!

I went home this past weekend for a wedding. I got to see friends that I hadn't seen in awhile, and that was good. The wedding was nice, and I saw people I had not seen in several years because the bride and her family have been friends of ours since as long as I can remember. I enjoyed being home, but I am glad to be back in Kennesaw :)

"You should go with both"

It's been awhile since my last post, and a lot of stuff has happened.

I'll start of with the RSL retreat I mentioned I was going to go on. It was an incredible weekend and I met a lot of great people. The UVS council got together and came up with some really good ideas, and I got a lot of good advice from the VP of RHA about what a VP is and does. Overall it was a really good weekend.

Last Wednesday, a man from Brazil named Marinho came and spoke to the PEGS Brazil students about Brazil because we are going there in less than a month. It was a really good presentation in which I received a lot of good information about Brazil. I am SO ready to go to Brazil now. Less than a month!

Last Thursday, I got an unexpected call from home, and needed to go home as soon as I could last weekend to be with my family. Come Friday evening, I wasn't able to find a ride home (because I have no car, so am unable to drive home), so I thought I wasn't going to be able to get home. Friday night, my friends Kelly, Sarah, Olivia, and Chloe had a movie night and a bunch of people came over to watch Shutter Island. My friend Wes was there and he said he had to go home to stay with his brother. He was leaving around 10:45, and someone asked him where he lived. He said Fayetteville, which is halfway between Kennesaw and Columbus. That's ironic because Friday afternoon my sister told me that she would come get me halfway, if I could just get there. I ran out into the hall and called my sister to let her know, then called Wes (cause he had already left Kelly's dorm) and asked him if I could go home with him for the night. He said yea, and I packed really fast and left KSU around 11, headed for Fayetteville. [insert here: Wes Lambert is incredible. We had a  good ride down to Fayetteville and a good time getting to know one another better. That's all haha] My sister came and picked me up Saturday morning and we went home.

I had a good weekend home, and God resolved the situation that was so pressing that I come home. I got to go to church to see my church family, and I spent Saturday evening at my cousin's house with my family, so it was a good weekend. My cousin let me borrow a TV that was at his fire station not being used. So now in my dorm I have a TV, all thanks to my cousin, Jimbo Harper. Thanks Jimbo!

This weekend is an exciting one. I get to go to NC my family, where we used to live while my dad went to seminary, so I am excited to go see my friends from NC.

That's all for now!

"Are you guys dating?"

So I chose that question for the title of this blog because that is the question Anna and I have gotten asked most this week. Anna and I went to high school together, and are in the same Learning Community (PEGS), meaning that we have all the same classes this semester. Because of this, we spend quite a lot of time together, and have gotten really close through that. We have a lot of the same friends, mainly because of a friend that Anna knew before coming to KSU, Fred, who knows everyone. Fred leads worship for House Church, a RSO that takes place every Tuesday night at 8pm, in various places around campus. Anna and I have been going to House Church every week, and through HC we have met some of the most incredible people ever created. Whenever we see the people we have met around campus, we're usually together, so when people see one of us, they see the other one. This has led people to ask us the question, "Are you guys dating?". After we laugh and say no to that question, we get "So you're brother and sister, right?" We just laugh again and tell everyone we're just best friends who happen to be in the same Learning Community.

So there's my schpeel on the reason for my title, now on to what's been going on this week.

Since last Friday, a lot of things have happened, one of those things being my 19th birthday. I was at home for my birthday, so I was able to spend it with my friends and family, which was really nice. My birthday was on a Sunday, so I went to church like usual. After church we grilled out burgers and hot dogs, which were really good. A family close to ours, the Williams', came over for lunch as well, so it was good to share part of my birthday with them.

When I got back to KSU, my friends Hannah Peele, Hannah McClure, and Anna Rogers had cooked lasagna and baked cupcakes for me for my birthday. The food was incredible and we had a great time just hanging out and eating good food.

Also in the past week were Community Council Elections for the University Village Suites. I was running for Vice President against a guy that I sort of knew through my friend, Keira Schrader. I was pretty sure he won because he just seemed a lot more confident than I was and seemed to have more friends in the room at the time of the voting. Wrong haha. I won! When I got the email about my victory the next night, I was so excited. I called my friend Gillian and just started yelling "I won! I won!" haha. My day was pretty rough, so for it to end on that note was pretty awesome. Because I won the election, I now have the privilege of going on a Resident Student Leadership Retreat this coming weekend with all of the other officers from the various Resident halls around campus. I really looking forward to it and it will definitely be in my next post.

That's all for now, look for another post next week!

It's Friday...I should post a new entry

Yea, that's what I said as I found my way to my blog. It's the end of the week, and I am supposed to be posting once a week, so here's a post.

I've been at Kennesaw State for 3 weeks now, and it's been incredible. I've met so many people, and they're all great. The PEGS (President's Emerging Global Scholars) Brazil students are really starting to get to know one another, and we're all becoming good friends. I think Brazil is going to be an excellent trip. We have 2 classes with the Mexico group, so we have been  getting to know them too. I think that the PEGS group as a whole is forming into one big PEGS family, and it's great.

I am beginning to get involved on campus. I attend a Bible study called House Church every Tuesday night, with a bunch of my friends. I am really glad that Anna Rogers told me about it, because it's incredible. I also attend Echo every Thursday night at North Metro Church. Apart from the various campus ministries I attend, I am also running for University Village Suites Community Council Vice President. The UVSCC is a council of students living in the suites who act as a go-between for the other residents and the people who work at ResLife. I am looking forward to the elections on Tuesday, and I hope all of my friends come out and vote for me.

That's all for this post. Look for another post next week!

KSU Week One

Hey Everyone!

As part of a school assignment, I will be posting a new blog about once a week, maybe twice a week.

For this first post, I'll just write about my first week here at KSU.

Upon arrival to KSU, I was blown away. The campus was very big and very beautiful. There were people everywhere, and check-in looked like it was going to take hours. It did. The financial aid office lost my deferment form, so I was almost unable to move in that day; but after waiting for what seemed like years, they found it, and things continued as normal. I met my roommate, his family, and friends, and moved all of my stuff into my dorm. It felt nice to have my own room. I did not realize how many people lived on my hall until the hall meeting, where I met my RA’s, two lively girls who wanted to make sure our first year at Kennesaw was one of the best years of our lives. Later that evening was the Ice Cream Social, which involved meeting more people. Move-in day was certainly one for the record books.
Life on campus this first week has been great. I have met a number of incredible people, and had some great meals in the Commons. I have enjoyed adjusting to college life and all that it brings: waking myself up for class, being responsible for myself, and just learning how to live without my parents. One of the best things about living on campus is that mostly everything is free. The university understands that college students are short on cash, so they literally give stuff to us for free: food, prizes, and basic necessities. I can definitely tell that living on campus is going to be one incredible experience.
One of the main aspects of being in college is going to class. I am a member of the PEGS Program, so my classes are in a Learning Community. I believe this has enhanced my college experience already because of the closeness that comes with a Learning Community. I have all of my classes with the same 15 people, which gives each of us a chance to really get to know one another. The classes themselves are very different from high school courses. In college, much of the work is done outside of class, apart from the teacher’s watchful eye. The classes are more difficult, and much more is expected of the students.
Yes, I do believe that college is going to be some of the best years of my life. It has been an incredible first week so far, getting to know people, living on my own, and going to class. The people I have met are great, and I have some of the best professors this university has to offer. I am very glad that I chose Kennesaw State University for my college experience.
